Ascension of Christ (B) Icon

As they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven."

With our Standard Icon, we begin with the finest 100% cotton, PH-neutral, archival museum-quality paper. Our prints are made in our controlled lab using a specialæprocessæwhich took over a decade to perfect. Finally, a series of custom sealants protect the image from fading, sun damage, and ozone by forming a barrier to outside elements. We do not laminate our icons, as lamination has unpredictable results for image stability. Our mission is to create timeless icons that will last, so you will only have to purchase them once.

The Legacy Icon is our signature icon. Our woodcraftsmen begin with hand-chosen poplar and cut it to the desired size. From there, they place oak slats across the back of the board to create a wood base that is second to none. We apply our museum-grade canvas prints using our exclusive process to adhere it permanently.

Our prime selected canvas and woods allow for expansion and contraction of the image that will prevent cracking or splitting. Our carpenters come from Grand Rapids, Michigan, which is home to the finest furniture makers and carpenters since the 19th century. Unlike other icon duplications, our prints have been environmentally-tested to resist degradation and fading for over 80 years, and in many cases well beyond 100.

Thou hast ascended in glory, O Christ our God, and gladdened thy Disciples with the promise of the Holy Spirit, having become confident of the blessing. Verily, thou art the Son of God, and Deliverer of the world.

After Jesus was resurrected from the dead, He spent forty days on earth teaching His disciples. On the fortieth day, after instructing them to wait for the descent of the Holy Spirit, while at Mount of Olives, He was taken up into the heavens in a cloud. Then two angels in white clothes said to the disciples, "Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven." Then the disciples returned to Jerusalem (Acts 1:9-11). In this icon Christ is above, with angels, being escorted back to His heavenly home. Below stand His Mother Mary, two angels in white, and the faithful disciples. Notice, it is Paul and Peter next to the Theotokos and there are 12 Apostles. This is not how it happened historically, but icons depict events with eternity in mind.
